Last December I posted a blog highlighting businesses that are owned and operated by individuals with Down Syndrome, and hopefully this helped a few of you find some gifts for the holidays (or cool stuff for yourself) while simultaneously supporting some extraordinary young people. I’m still new to the whole Down Syndrome community, only two years in, and I’m constantly learning more about every little facet, including this one. Since we just finished Down Syndrome Awareness Month, I thought I’d do a Part II of the Down to Business post, and share a few more businesses worthy of your support. If you’d like to rehash the old post or see it for the first time, here it is:
So here’s a few Down Syndrome based (or at least Down Syndrome friendly) businesses that I absolutely love!
Lucky Few Crew
If you’re anything like me, you love a good t-shirt. They make up a significant percentage of my wardrobe, and this company designs stuff that I think I probably would have come up with, myself! I love their use of the Down Syndrome arrows symbol, and especially their Big Smiles logo with one eye being the arrows and the other a lightning bolt. Inspired by their daughter Indie Rose who was born in 2020, Lucky Few Crew seeks to spread awareness and give back to programs that provide resources for people with DS. I love their t-shirt designs, of course, and also that they come in onesies for infants, as well as toddler sizes, so your whole Crew can represent. They also have hoodies, stickers, bags, backpacks, and even blankets (Indie’s blanket is my fave!), and I don’t think I saw a single thing on the site that cost more than $50. I love this brand, and I think you will, too! Check out their website HERE.
The Lucky Few
I stumbled upon these guys accidentally while looking for Lucky Few Crew’s website, and after looking at their stuff, I just had to include them. I love how they have a collection especially for Moms, called the Mama Collection, and reading the product description had me in tears. I also recommend checking out the O.G. Collection and Everyone Belongs. The Lucky Few offers t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies, hats, flags, and even a children’s book, and I don’t think I saw anything that cost more than $45, so definitely an affordable place to shop. Check out their website HERE, and below is a screenshot from that site about their mission.
Miniland
Miniland is not owned or operated by an individual with Down Syndrome, but I’m including them here because they make baby products and educational toys for all kids, including stuff designed especially for kids with disabilities. They have soooo much cool stuff, I couldn’t even begin to describe it all in a short paragraph. What actually got my attention is their doll with Down Syndrome, and I am absolutely going to have to get one for Betsy one day. Here’s a video from their website that shows what they’re about, and you can visit that website HERE.
Candidly Kind
Last but not least for this edition of Down to Business is Atlanta-based Candidly Kind, founded by 25-year old Grace Key and her mother Carrie. Grace herself designs all the products, which include t-shirts (both short and long sleeves), tanks, hoodies, stickers, tote bags, infant onesies, and more. I just love her designs (she has some new holiday ones that are awesome) and her message of kindness! Candidly Kind donates a portion of all profits to a number of charities and non-profits. Besides designing products and running the entire business, Grace also models not only for her own company (you will see her all over the website!), but for some other big names as well! Check out this video from the WEBSITE to get a proper introduction (it’s kinda long, but it won’t even take a minute to see why I like this amazing girl so much):
So that’s it for this edition of Down to Business! Perfect gift items available for anyone with Down Syndrome and/or the people who love them, and some great causes to support. You can’t lose! Let me know in the comments which one is your favorite, and if you find something excellent for yourself or someone else! Be sure to like and subscribe here if you haven’t already, or you can show extra support by upgrading to a paid subscription or making a one-time donation via Buy Me a Coffee. Thank you for reading! Just cos I love you so much, I’m going to include two pictures from Halloween. Betsy has the perfect red hair to pull off Batgirl, don’t you think?
Yes, there are SOOO many great businesses. Lots of Lucky mamas like you and me who have started businesses in honor of their kiddos. Rising Kites, Jacks Basket, etc! I just published a book about my son, Rhodes called Rhodes' Magnificent Toes! And I started my online business mayhemmercy.com after Rhodes was born!
